An incredible journey combining the highlights of two contrasting Central Asian nations. From the marble-clad city of Ashgabat and the ancient ruins of Merv in Turkmenistan to the legendary Silk Road oases of Khiva, Bukhara, and Samarkand in Uzbekistan.
Day-by-Day Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan
Arrive in Ashgabat, transfer to hotel.
Day 2: Ashgabat - Mary - Merv - Ashgabat
Morning flight to Mary. Full-day tour of the ancient UNESCO site of Merv. Evening flight back to Ashgabat.
Day 3: Ashgabat - Darvaza Gas Crater
City tour of Ashgabat. In the afternoon, drive to the Darvaza Gas Crater ('Gates of Hell') and camp in yurts nearby.
Day 4: Darvaza - Kunya-Urgench - Khiva, Uzbekistan
Drive to Kunya-Urgench (UNESCO site). Proceed to the border, cross into Uzbekistan, and continue to Khiva.
Day 5: Khiva City Tour
Full-day tour of Ichan-Kala in Khiva.
Day 6: Khiva - Bukhara
Full-day drive or train journey from Khiva to Bukhara.
Day 7: Bukhara City Tour
Full-day exploration of historic Bukhara.
Day 8: Bukhara - Samarkand
Morning in Bukhara. Afternoon high-speed train to Samarkand.
Day 9: Samarkand City Tour
Full-day tour of Samarkand's major sights.
Day 10: Samarkand - Tashkent
Morning at leisure. Afternoon high-speed train to Tashkent.
Day 11: Departure from Tashkent
Transfer to Tashkent airport for departure.
